In Western North Carolina there are at least two faults - Laurel Creek and Swannanoa.
The site below lists earthquakes in TN which can be felt in NC. Check the related link Also, the USGS site is quite informative.
There are major and minor fault lines all over the United States. The two biggest fault lines that run through North Carolina are the Hayesville-Fries fault line and the Brevard Fault.
large, north Carolina has loads of earthquakes because the fault lines are very large indeed
No.
Earth is looser at the fault lines.
Florida does not have any major fault lines that are younger than 6 million years old. Although there are no fault lines in Florida, there is still a chance of an earthquake being felt in Florida.
because they lie closer to fault lines
because the tectonic plates are moving beneth the earths crust, colliding with each other. if someone live along one of these fault lines between the plates they would experience a large earthquake.
Fault lines are really located everywhere, but it's usually the major fault lines that you need to worry about. The recent Virginia earthquake, which occurred on Aug. 23, 2011, was not related to any major geological fault line. However, geologists are concerned with the New York-Alabama Lineament, which is a major magnetic fault line that runs from New York to Alabama. See the Related Link below for more information on fault lines in the U.S. east of the Rocky Mountains.
only on fault lines
Along fault lines.
Death.
Earthquake
Haiti is sandwiched north and south between two fault lines: the Septentrional Fault and the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden Fault. The epicenter of the Haitian earthquake of 12 January 2010 was 10 miles south of the capital Port Au Prince, directly on the Enriquillo-Plantain Garden Fault , at a depth of about 5.2 miles underground.
Fault lines are caused by differential or shear movement, when fault lines slip rapidly energy is released causing an earthquake.
an earthquake
Earth is looser at the fault lines.
This is at the fault lines. This is were the most damage is going to occur during the earthquake.
no
yes its safer
New Zealand lies on the confluence of 4 different fault lines
