The only people in South Vietnam that the average "front line grunt" came in contact with were the Montagnards; other than ARVNs & the enemy. The Montagnards were, as the men were told, the original inhabitants of Vietnam...and these folks lived in the mountains (the Central Highlands)...thus the French word for MOUNTAIN PEOPLE; Montagnards.

During the Vietnam War, the president at the time had asked Hmong people to help ambush a Viet Supply Line. He promised us that he would help rebuild our great civilization. General Vang Pao had took the offer and entered us in war. The Americans had supplied us weapons and we took the offensive. After the war was over, the vietnamese were mad at the Hmong for betraying the Laotion Gov. We were at war and the president didn't keep his end of the deal. He left the Hmong to fend for themselves with little protection. We were forced to hide in the jungles and flee to Thailand. Only a few Hmong had escaped to America thanks to General Vang Pao. My parents were some of the few that fled to America. So today, we still fight and live in fear. This is the Hmong people...
