The elbow joint is a hinge joint. When it has been replaced with a prosthesis there is always a lot of bruising and swelling as a result not to mention cuts that need to heal properly. the fact is that it leaves the whole area rather sore and sensitive to move. therefore as the swelling goes down and the wound heals. the elbow will need to be deliberately moved repeatedly to the straight position and to the bent position with the aid of the other arm to loosen it up and get maximum flex back out of it. In my particular case the damage to my original elbow was such that I even have to get my hand turning properly again and need to exercise the hand and fingers to get the muscles and coordination back in order. The process's can be tedious but don't loose heart, Persevere, I am finding improvement in movement strength and comfort every day.

Continuing from the previous section that I donated.

within a couple of weeks I found that the swelling and most of the discomfort from the operation had gone and I was getting a fair bit of use out of the elbow already even without any particular phis therapy. the only thing necessary once I was able was to just gently straighten and bend my arm as far as was able with the aid of my other arm. the same applies with the radial movement of the hand, just turn the palm of your hand to face upwards and flat out as if you are expecting some one to put something in it. repeat these movements as often as you can handle and you ill find the arm will be just about back to normal within a couple of months. I had an ulnar decompression and this caused numbness in the pinkie side of the hand this is also constantly improving.

What is a good way to treat the pain caused in the elbow as a result of arthritic joint damage?

One way is to remove the damaged bone in the joints and replace it with total elbow replacement surgery. The decision to have this done should be made carefully and after having familiarized yourself as well as possible with the nature of your elbow joint and the in and outs of elbow replacement surgery. When undergoing total elbow replacement surgery, the natural joints are removed and replaced with an artificial hinge made of metal and plastic. This implant is inserted into the bone where the joint was forming a hinge and ending the painful contact that was being made between the forearm bones and the humerus.
