The cost of food has risen considerably since 1936. Currently, bread sells for around 3 or 4 dollars per loaf. Back in 1936, a person could buy a loaf of bread for a meager 7 or 8 cents.

When shopping it is important to have a general idea of the cost of the items being bought. In the 1930's food was much cheaper than it is today, the cost of 5 pounds of sugar was 30.5 cents.
