They should certainly discuss the risk factors of the mutated gene in relation to breast and ovarian cancer. The final decision should always be with the patient. This is a very personal decision and factors including age, completion of child bearing etc etc need to be taken into account. Discussion should be with genetic/gyno counsellor as well as surgeon.
