The True Path Just before Ninakawa passed away the Zen master Ikkyu visited him. "Shall I lead you on?" Ikkyu asked. Ninakawa replied: "I came here alone and I go alone. What help could you be to me?" Ikkyu answered: "If you think you really come and go, that is your delusion. Let me show you the path on which there is no coming and no going." With his words, Ikkyu had revealed the path so clearly that Ninakawa smilled and passed away. Ever known of a religion, any -ism, or any kind of practice, where everyone practiced in the same way? Even two people, doing anything, together, at the same time and in the same place, will do SOMETHING differently. I won't say that there is any one right way to practice Buddhism. Even in the way that seems most appropriate to me (say "right" if you will), there is such an enormous range of possibilities that, still, there isn't any one right way, in my view. No matter what path you take, the view from the top is always the same to all seekers. Another view: Buddhism isn't a religion, that is your first delusion. Buddhist practice emphasizes the 4 Noble Truths, practice focuses first on understanding them which leads to the Lesser Journey. If one isn't doing this, one isn't practicing Buddhism. So far as is known only Vipassahna meditation leads reliably to the unconditioned state. Why bother to pay the fare if you aren't intending to get on the train?
