No it shouldn't. Anti-lock brake systems are suppose to surge, no lock up and skid.
Take the car to a trusted garage to have the abs brakes fixed.
In a car without ABS, if you slam on the brakes, your wheels will lock and your car will skid. ABS prevents the wheels from locking by releasing the brakes if you start to loose traction.
You dont skid so you can control the car while stopping
Yes you can rely on the brakes to stop you without ABS, however the braking distance will be greater and the car is will skid if the brakes are used hard. If your ABS isn't working take it to a car garage and get it fixed.
Take your foot off the gas, brake gently, steer into the skid.
The warning light showing a car skidding indicates a problem with the anti skid circuit, or abs brakes. A computer code check should be run to find any issues.
ABS prevents breaks from locking up when you have to slam them down to stop suddenly. The ABS system causes the car to jerk a bit when it kicks in. Older cars that don't have ABS may lock up and the car will not maneuver well and may skid when stopping suddenly. If you "pump" non-ABS breaks instead of slamming them down, you can avoid the negative effects of a non-ABS system.
If an investigator looked at the skid marks at the crash scene, he could tell how fast you were driving unless the vehicle has ABS brakes, then there would be no skid marks.
You should turn into the skid otherwise you risk flipping the car which can be extremely dangerous.
Ease off the gas pedal, stop braking, and steer in the direction of the skid.
abs lol when the abs senses a skid it blocks the peddle preventing you from pushing it any further which would cause you to skid anymore
It should NOT be skidding. From your description I think you are mis-interpreting the "skid light." An '04 Highlander is equipped with an ABS system and the fact that it skids at all is indicative that it is not working properly. The "skid light" that you refer to is actually a warning light that indicates that the ABS system is malfunctioning! You should be getting it to a mechanic or dealer right away to have it fixed.
