There is a ordor of formaldehyde in the gun safe we bought new in 2009. we store our medicine in it also. does the formaldehyde gas absorb into our medicine?

It could. The formaldehyde smell is usually from outgassing from formaldehyde used in the manufacture of some of the materials used to line the safe- foam padding, carpeting, etc. The smell SHOULD go away with some ventilation for a while. Do not know the date of your question (part of a pile of older questions that the computer dredged up) but it is now 2012- a safe bought 3 years ago should not be outgassing at this time. Would try leaving the door open with a small fan blowing into the safe for a few days, and see if that fixes the matter.
