due to the introduction of the cotton gin to the united states, specifically in the southern region. Both areas of the united stated started to become equally industrialized.However, at this point in time, the north was still exponentially more industrialized than the southern regions of the states. the south did begin to move more towards machine labor saving devices, even though they still empoyed massive slae labor. also at this time thre were still no cotton mills etalished in the southern part of the states, so the south had to rely on the norths processing power in order to make any money off there cotton crops.
