Ramadan is an entire month long, a Muslim spends the day fasting (from sun up until sun down) no food, no drinks, no smoking, no swearing, no...ahem.
Yes, one might say similar things as other religions, such as Happy Ramadan! or Ramadan Blessings! A common greeting is Ramadan Mubarak! or on the end of Ramadan, during Eid al-Fitr, a common greeting might be Eid Mubarak!
I don't know, I guess they think that Ramadan is just a break for the bad things that they do.
During Ramadan, Muslims do many many things. For one they pray taraweeh at night and some even pray al-qeyam (tahajud) in the middle of the night. They fast the month of Ramadan, read the full Quran, be kind, give money, etc;.
Someone who follows the five pillars of Islam-if you don't do this, you are not considered a Muslim. Similarly, there are some things that if you do them, you are not following the ways of Islam and therefore, not a proper Muslim. The five pillars of Islam are : Shahadah-declaration of faith; Salaat-praying 5 times a day; Zakat- giving charity and a set percentage of what you earn to charity; Sawm- Fasting during the month of Ramadan; Hajj- The pilgrimage to Makkah.
