Lyndon Johnson was not known for his speech giving skills. He had a thick Texas accent which proved to be hard to interpret through radio and televisions throughout the nation. His first and last speech are known as his most eloquent speeches. But otherwise, if you were to watch any of his speeches he was not jagged, but he was also not nearly as polished as Obama is today.

What I see and hear when he speaks through the media is a person who is a somewhat skilled reader with a trained voice but fails miserably as an audience mesmerizing extemporaneous speaker. When he speaks without his teleprompters it is obvious that he gets lost in thought and, consequently, stutters a lot.
