Robyn Hued (Robin Hood) doesn't appear in history until the dark ages and then only in a Ballard. Whether or not he was a real person is left to conjecture. The best guess we have is that he may have been either a fictional character or a composite of a number of different people.

Robin of Locksley the earl of Huntingdon was mentioned as a candidate in the 17th century in a poem by Thomas dale the dean of York, but the authenticity of this is highly questionable. It would have been written many centuries after the life of the so called "Real" Robin Hood and was probably invented to legitimise the character.
Robin Hoood is a character of folklore, who may have been based on an actual person or might just be a story. There is much wrtten on Robin hood, but much of it is contradictory or outright storyteller invention; so it is impossble to say if he actually existed.

Robin hood is believed to be real his was historicaly known as Robin of Loxley he fought in the third Crusade and when he returned prince john had set high taxes. The rest of the story may be folk law but many historians believe he was a real person who was born in 1160 and lived to 1247.

NO...actually while no documented proof exists to validate the existence of a character called Robin Hood or his deeds. Nobody can be certain that the origins of the story were not traditional fireside folklore which in itself need not be as accurate as we would like.

Is Robin Hood real or not?

Yes! Hint, hint: yes!!!!!! Yes. The earliest sources of the Robin Hood legend are ballads dating before 1450. In one of them King Edward comes to Yorkshire and makes Robin Hood one of his yeomen. The only King Edward who was in Yorkshire before 1450 was Edward II. In the documents of Edward II's reign there is a record of a Robyn Hod who was in his service. My novel The Robin Hood Chronicles blends the stories in the early ballads with what is known of the life of Robyn Hod to make a coherent biography of the legendary figure.

Do people believe in Robin Hood?

I believe there was a real Robin Hood, and my novel The Robin Hood Chronicles is a half-serious attempt to re-create in fiction what may have been the reality. The earliest Robin Hood ballads place him in Yorkshire and associate him with a King Edward, who takes him into the royal service. This can only be Edward II, who was in Yorkshire in 1323, and the servants in his court in 1323 included a Robyn Hod, his valet and porter. My source is Robin Hood, by J.C. Holt, though Holt draws back from making the identification as positive as I have.
