Many people believe that the Chinese calendar represents a person's sign according to the year only.
What they don't realize is that what many refer to as "Chinese Astrology" is far more precise than that.
First off, the proper name is The 4 Pillars System or BaZi.
It is a system that uses the Chinese solar date to understand a person's composure and life. It is not really a form of astrology because it does not take into consideration the moon and the stars and planets. Instead, it, much like the Chinese date, is a record of the energy at the given moment.
In fact, to be precise, you need to know not only the year, month and day you were born on, but also the hour and minute and to be precise, the longitude and timezone.
Now, the Chinese date, works by pairing together an animal from the Chinese Zodiac (the 12 animals or 12 branches) and an element in either it's yin or yang form (the 10 stems) This system (which is still used today) is called the stem and branch theory. These two series of stems and branches cycle together, but because they are not of equal number, it takes 60 rotations before the cycles repeat themselves.
So to answer your question, there are in fact 4 animals that represent you, and 4 elements in their yin or yang form. But because we only have your day month and year, i can only tell you those ones. They are:
Year: Gui (Water Yin) Mao (Rabbit)
Month: Yi (Wood Yin) Chou (Ox)
Day: Bing (Fire Yang) Yin (Tiger)
I got this information from a new website - www.ming-man.com
They have a calendar that converts from the Western (Gregorian) calendar to the
Chinese Solar calendar @ http://www.ming-man.com/solarcalendar
They also have a calculator that shows you your 4 Pillars (Chinese Astrology) table @ http://www.ming-man.com/fourpillars
They also have really good videos that show you how to use The 4 Pillars System. There are samples at www.ming-man.com/player (but you'll need to open a free account to view them) and they have cool short videos on their YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/mingmanproductions#p/u/0/gBQ2_AuNhAk&fmt=18
So I'm not quite sure how someone got the answer Dragon, but if they are trying to base it off of the year then it would be Rabbit.
But, the full answer, as you can see above is more complex than that, and it should be, unless you think that you look and behave exactly the same as everyone else that was born during the same year as you.
