My son and I have three Dachshunds. They are very, very loveable and all of ours really enjoy children.

Dachshunds are a lot of fun, each being very unique. They are usually very affectionate, loyal, and intresting. They are especially bubbly as puppies (and most times as adults). They may be a bit nervous though, around other dogs, people, or something unfamiliar to them, though not all dachshunds are this way. Many people I've met say that dachshunds are the best kind of dogs you can get, along with myself.

∙ 9y agoYes they make great pets! Just make sure you provide them with the same leadership you would any other dog.
Folks often make the mistake of babying a small dog and then end up with behavior problems. So long and you provide calm leadership, you will have a great companion. Also be sure not to overfeed them!

If fact, the standard dachshund were breed to hunt in packs. Therefore, they are very content if they have other dogs to bond with. Since the miniature dachshund is derived from the standard, they also have the same temperament. They love to have other dogs around to bond with.

Yes, they do, especially in summer months. I have two Miniature Longhaired Dachshunds and they shed quite alot unless you brush them frequently.

But he is fine with sleeping in a dark room. I don't think it's characteristic of dachshunds disliking the dark. It may just be a quirk of your pet.
