Common misperception is that the United States isn't home to any crocs at all... The southern tip of Florida actually does have natural habitats of the American Crocodile. Their numbers currently range somewhere around 2,000 or so animals in all. In fact, Florida is the only place on earth where gators and crocs co-exist. As for diet, crocs eat rabbits, dogs, cats, and other smaller mammals. They may also eat deer, and have been known to attack humans (though no known American cases of croc-human attacks have been documented). In short, American Crocodiles are Apex predators that will eat what they find convenient, and are hunted by nothing other than humans.

Crocodiles are ambush hunters, waiting for fish or land animals to come close, then rushing out to attack. As cold-blooded predators, they have a very slow metabolism, and thus can survive long periods without food. Despite their appearance of being slow, crocodiles are top predators in their environment, and various species have been observed attacking and killing sharks. A famous exception is the Egyptian Plover which is said to enjoy a symbiotic relationship with the crocodile. According to unauthenticated reports, the plover feeds on parasites that infest the crocodile's mouth and the reptile will open its jaws and allow the bird to enter to clean out the mouth.

Many large crocodilians swallow stones (called gastroliths or stomach stones) which may act as ballast to balance their body or assist in crushing food, similar to grit in birds.

The American alligator's diet varies from fish to deer. This reptile may also eat other creatures from the body of water it lives in. Such as turtles or frogs. The American alligators diet also consists of antelope, rabbits, or any such meat that is near. It has been said that the American alligator eats humans. This is possible but HIGHLY unlikey.
