Your rocking chair may need to be re glued. Have someone sit and rock in it and get down and listen for where the creak is coming from. The joints have a tendency to come loose over time as carpenter's glue was animal-water based. After you have checked the joints, sometimes just squeezing a bit of carpenter's glue around the joint will fix the problem without having to disassemble the chair. Let dry for 48 hours before use. By the way, check the humidity of the house. If this item is creaking, it is a possibility that your home is too dry. This can also lead to more colds in the winter. Wood is a good indicator of humidity and a creaking chair means that the house is drier than is necessary.
