For cheap toy kits you can use large trash bags for the kite cover, thin Ash or Maple sticks (cross braces) for strength, and butcher twine for the string. For mid to high end kite materials, kite cover materials: Japanese paper, ripstop nylon, tyvec (a plastic coated paper), or mylar. For stick material: there are many lightweight, high strength metals out there but, for strength to weight ratio, a carbon fiber composit stick or tube would be your best bet. For your string or line there are many to choose from: strength to size an weight ratio, nylon seems to be the best.

Depends on the kite you are going to make. Kites can be made fom almost anything! A material which has some wind proofing, is light weight and hard wearing is probably best if you are putting a lot of effor into making the kite. For modern styled kites ripstop nylon is considered a good option, the only real draw back being some colours may fade when the kite has been flown in strong sun light over a few years and it can mildew if put away moist from dewy grass or rain.

You will need construction paper ,crayons ,markers ,a stapleler ,glue ,string ,and tape. You could also do it with a plastic bag instead of construction paper, but you will still need construction paper for designs in your kite youre going to do.
