During few decades human activities have resulted in the reduction of ozone layer,the main cause for thinning of ozone layer is excessive release of chlorine and bromine from man-made compounds such as chlorofluorocarbons,halons,and methyl bromide found to have direct impact on thinning of the ozone layer.

∙ 9y agoIt used to be chlorofluorocarbons(CFC)s which when enter the atmosphere change the O3( ozone ) to O2 ( oxygen ) while acting like a catalyst.
The substances that are causing ozone layer depletion are freons, CFC's etc..
These are called as ozone-depleting substances (ODS).
