us humans have opposable thumbs which means that we can easily move it around and it will help us to grab things alot easier, some animals however have thumbs that are very short and cannot move around, so humans are lucky to have opposable thumbs because it is very helpful, one wont even be able to hold a pencil without an opposable thumb.

It is a difficult thing to say, people without thumbs , or even arms , can still write, eat with utensils, but with some difficulty. Some tasks may be more difficult , like tying shoe laces, or turning in a bolt or screw, but human problem solving usually finds a solution . On a whimsical note though, hitchhiking , giving the "thumbs" up , without thumbs , one could send the wrong message! To answer the question is to look at the words " opposable thumbs", which means exactly that "opposite' that the digit known as a "thumb" , moves in the opposite direction of the other digits, which allows a grasping movement .
It is a thumb that can move around objects. You have one on your hand.
