Actually, macaroni is a mispelling of Italian maccheroni (mah-kker-own-ee). The reason CCHE changed to CA is because most Americans have trouble believing that CH before I or E in Italian is pronounced as a K sound. ("What??? NO WAY!!! I thought Italian was pronounced EXACTLY like English!", said the millions and millions of close-minded Americans.) The examples are too many to list, but most musical, cooking terms as well as ghetto terms are from Italian.

By ghetto, I mean:

ghetto

bimbo

bordello

fiasco

mafia

vendetta

baretta

and others....yes, every American's favorite Italian words! The mafia ones!
