A woodsman named Nick Chopper loved a woman named Nimee Amee. Her guardian didn't want them to be together and asked the Wicked Witch of the East to curse his axe. It gradually chopped his body to bits, and a tinsmith replaced it with tin, except he couldn't make a heart. The Tin Woodsman befriended Dorothy during her stay in Oz and joined her journey to the Emerald City. The Wizard eventually gave him a caring heart. After the Wicked Witch of the West was killed, the Tin Man became Emperor of the Winkies.
