What are some tips for writing a song?

First, you have to figure out the topic of what you want to right. After you have found a topic, for example, love, you would think about some things that go good with the topic like, your heart, feelings and stuff like that. Once you have thought of a few things about the topic, write down a sentence that has to do with the topic using at least one of your words. For example, "days went by with me missing you, my feelings are strong but I don't know what to do". Your sentence doesn't have to be perfect yet. These sentences are just ideas. Think about how you feel when someone might not love you back. Or you've been heart broken. Or if you want a song about love going well, think about things you do to try to maintain the feeling like, " I want our love to be everlasting, is that too much one could be asking". You would write different sentences about one topic then pick out your favorites. Put your favorites you have picked out into a paragraph in the order that you feel is best. Start to sing the whole paragraph in different tunes to see which one you like best. The whole paragraph doesn't have to be the same tune. You could sing low on some words and high on others. Use the topic steps I have typed above to write the best song you possibly could, and maybe one day I'll be singing with you in your Music Videos!

The steps above are called "Brainstorming" and it's a great technique to get you started. Here are some more tips:

• Write from the heart - that means write about things that cause strong emotion for you
• Use proper grammar - songs with poor grammar tend to really annoy lots of people, and they flip the song off before they finish listening
• Put in a catchy chorus that everyone will want to sing along with, not just a long poem
• You don't have to do the music part yourself - you can just write the words and let someone else do the music
