The term food mineral(s) is something of a misnomer. They are actually a number of chemical elements, which when taken in supplement form, are actually in the form of a soluble salt containing one or more of the elements which is essential to life in some manner. Calcium and iron are most mentioned but others, such as magnesium, potassium, sodium, zinc, phosphorus, sulfur, iodine, cobalt, nickel, selenium and many more, are essential as well. No such element is ever consumed in its pure form, rather it's taken in as a soluble chemical compound containing an essential element or within the complex chemistry in the food we consume,,, the digestive system then doing the job of extracting and incorporating it into the bloodstream and the body.
