The are not called the seven deadly sins, they are called the seven capital sins.
.
From the Baltimore Catechism, volume 3:295. Q. What are the chief sources of sin.
A. The chief sources of sin are seven: Pride, Coveteousness, Lust, Anger, Gluttony, Envy, and Sloth and they are commonly called capital sins.
.
from The Catechism of the Catholic Church, second edition, English translation 19941866 Vices can be classified according to the virtues they oppose, or also be linked to the capital sins which Christian experience has distinguished, following St. John Cassian and St. Gregory the Great. They are called "capital" because they engender other sins, other vices. (Cf. St. Gregory the Great, Moralia in Job, 31, 45: J.P. Migne, ed., Patrologia Latina {Paris: 1841-1855} 76, 621A). They are pride, avarice, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth or acedia.
Wrath
Greed
Sloth
Pride
Envy
Lust
Gluttony
These are the seven -deadly- sins, not to be confused with the mortal sins, which go against the word of god and the 10 commandments, the seven deadly sins are pardonable if one confesses, while a mortal sin is not. If one does not confess and seek redemption to 4 of the seven deadly sins, they will go straight to hell, just like if a person commits a single mortal sin (even if they confess and seek redemption).
The Ten Commandments of God are as follows ...
1) Thou shalt have no other god before me.
2) Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven images or any likeness of anything that is in the heaven above, or that is on the earth below, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.
3) Thou shalt not take the name of the lord, thy God in vein
4) Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour and do all thy work, but the seventh day is the sabbath of thy lord thy God.
5) Honour thy mother and thy father, that thy days may be long upon the land which the lord thy God giveth thee.
6) Thou shalt not kill
7) Thou shalt not commit adultery
8) Thou shalt not steal
9) Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour
10) Thou shalt not covet thy neighbours house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbours wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor anything that is thy neighbours.
Losely update, this means..
You will not worship another god more than you worship God
You will not make false idols, nor worship or serve them
You will not take the name of God in vein
You will not work on the seventh day (Sunday)
You will honour your mother and your father
You will not commit murder
You will not commit adultery
You will not steal
You will not lie
You will not long for that which is not yours
.. to do otherwise is a mortal sin, and unforgivable.
There is only one sin which can not be forgiven, that is to refuse the Holy Spirit to speak through you when delivered up before the Anti-Christ (Satan playing the role of fake Jesus), you will find that written in Mark 3:29 and its reference verse Revelation 13:6 where Satan speaks as the fake christ. Revelation 20 explains the deception by Satan, the Devil.
There is good definition of specific sins written in Revelation 21:8 which is inclusive. If you as a man partake in any of the sins written in Revelation 21:8, you best be getting your soul right with our Father through the forgiveness provided by Christ. Most of us are guilty of lying or having issue with our faith. We all need to repent, that is what Christ provided for us. Revelation chapter 21 provides a fairly good set of guidelines for the worst sins, and there are much more than 7 written there.
Fearful = 1169 = dilos = faithless, timid, dread
Unbelieving = 571 = apistos = disbelieving, faithless, infidel, unbeliever
Abominable = 948 = bdel oo so = to stink; be disgusted; detest; abhor (our Father or Christ)
Murderers = 5406 = fon-yooce = criminal, intentional homicide, one who plans and lies in wait, note this does not include anth-ro-pok-ton-os =443= manslaughter which is unintentional and accidental. Nor does it include defense as in military battle where one is fighting their enemy, unless you cross the line during that military conflict and take up murder of innocent people. Deception of others via doctrine can be considered murder.
Whoremongers =4205 = por-nos = to sell; a male prostitute, a fornicator, literally and to other doctrines.
Sorcerers = 5332 = far-mak-yoos = spell giving potion, pharmacists or poisoner, a magician. This would include drug dealers, and those who use potions and drugs as a means to deceive people
idolaters = 1496 = i-do-lol-at-race = and image servant or worshipper (this can be your automobile or boat or your good luck jersey, anything you place faith in other than our Father).
All Liars = 5571 = psyoo-dace= untrue, ie erroneous, deceitful, wicked, false, liar, but more specifically one who lies to purposefully deceive others
That is our list of issues which shall get your soul a one way trip into the lake of fire (destroyed forever). This is why its called the second death. You die a flesh death and your works as defined above sentence your soul to die as well.
Another PerspectivePerhaps you are referring to what King Solomon noted in Proverbs. But the global definition of sin is lawlessness found in 1 John 3:4 and all but Jesus have done so:
Proverbs 6:16-19New King James Version (NKJV)16 These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
They are: greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, sloth, and pride.
All sin is equal
Roman Catholic AnswerThe seven deadly sins, as we now have them, were drawn up by catechists in the early church (before the seventh century) to help people sort them out. The sins themselves are in opposition to the seven virtues, which are from God. God did not, and being All-Good, could not have made up the seven deadly sins.
They are not in the Bible - this was a later invention of the apostate christian church.
Obviously they are not called deadly for nothing.
Temperance =virtue Gluttony=one of the Seven Deadly Sins

No. They are not identical.Although they are based on the same thing (what you should be not doing), they are different, and obviously one has 7 rules, the other has 10..Catholic AnswerThe seven deadly sins are a catechetical formulation of the Church in the early centuries, the Ten Commandments were given by God directly and recorded in the Old Testament.
