There are many hierarchical positions, the the top leaders of the LDS church are called Prophets, with the current leading Prophet being Thomas S. Monson.

Including that position and going downward you have:

  • The Prophet, who also has two assistants, they are also considered Prophets. This is often called the First Presidency.
  • Apostles (also considered Prophets). There are twelve of them and they meet with the First Presidency on a regular basis and have assignments from the First Presidency.
  • Seventy authorities (or Area authorities) which work under the direction of the First Presidency and the Apostles. They cover smaller areas in different parts of the world (smaller areas possibly being multiple countries).
  • Stake President, which is over several wards, a ward being a congregation.
  • Bishop or Branch President, which lead a local congregation (depends upon the size of the congregation as to the title, Bishop has a larger congregation (an example might be 300 people) whereas a Branch President might only have 20 members in his congregation).

There are many different titles for leaders in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church), depending on which level of leadership they are at.

The leader of the church is the Prophet. He is addressed as President.

He is assisted by two counselors, who are also addressed as President.

The counselors and prophet make up the First Presidency and preside over the Twelve Apostles.

Each of the Twleve Apostles is addressed as Elder.

The Apostles oversee the Seventies quorums. Seventies are also addressed as Elder.

The Prophet, counselors, Apostles, and members of the First Quorum of Seventy are called the "General Authorities" of the Church. They make up the general governing body of the Church.

The Apostles also oversee the Presiding Bishop (addressed as Bishop) and the General Auxillary Presidencies for the Relief Society, Young Men, Young Women, Sunday School, and Primary. (Women in Auxillary Presidencies are are addressed as Sister and men are addressed as President)

At a local level, Area Seventies (addressed as Elder) preside over Stake Presidencies. Area Seventies answer to the other Seventies mentioned above.

A Stake President has two counselors, these three make up the Stake Presidency and all are addressed as President. A Stake Presidency oversees a collection of congregations in a local area.

A High Council made up of High Priests assists the Stake Presidency.

A large congregation (a ward) is lead by a Bishop and two counselors. The Bishop is addressed as Bishop, but his counselors are addressed as Brother. In a small congregation (a branch) the leader is a Branch President, who also has two counselors. They oversee the activities of the congregation and call members to lead small groups in the congregation. Each adult male in a congregation is addressed as "Brother" and each adult female is addressed as "Sister".

whew... was that long and confusing enough? ;) There are some "Related Links" below that might help.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) believe that Jesus Christ is the head of their church. Mormons believe that Jesus Christ leads their church through direct revelation to the prophet. Mormons look to Jesus Christ (through scripture and prayer) and to the current, living Prophet and Twelve Apostles as the heads of their church.

The head of a Mormon congregation is called a "Bishop".

Within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church), there are many different titles given to various leaders and teachers depending on their position.

The top leader of the Church is referred to as the president and prophet of the Church. His official title is 'President so-and-so'. He has two counselors who are also addressed as 'President'. These three men make up the 'first presidency'.

Below the First Presidency is the Quorum of Twelve Apostles. Each of these twelve men is considered an Apostle, and is addressed as "Elder so-and-so".

Below the Quorum of the Twelve are regional leaders called Seventies. They are addressed as "Elder so-and-so" as well.

The leader of a congregation (a ward) is called a Bishop. He is called "Bishop so-and-so". He has two counselors, but they are addressed as "Brother", not "Bishop". Small congregations (a branch) will be lead by a Branch President, who is addressed as "President" instead of "Bishop".

A group of local congregations is clumped together to form a Stake. The Stake is lead by a President and two counselors. Only the President is addressed as "President so-and-so", the others are addressed as "Brother".

Within a congregation, each member holds a positon, either as a member of the priesthood or as a teacher, assistant, secretary, etc. Members of congregations typically address each other as "Brother" or "Sister", regardless of their responsibility or position.

Missionaries are addressed as "Elder" or "Sister", just as their nametags identify them.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) believe that Jesus Christ is their ultimate leader. Obviously the church needs to be managed on earth, so there are various leaders within the church with different responsibilities.

The highest church authority is the Prophet or the "President of the Church". Mormons believe that this man may receive revelation from God regarding His will for the church as a whole or for the entire world.

The President of the Church has two (or more) counselors to assist him. The President and his Counselors are together called the First Presidency.

Below the First Presidency is the Quorum of Twelve Apostles. The Apostles' duty is to proclaim the gospel around the world.

Seventies oversee large regions of the church, and serve as a link between local leadership and the worldwide leaders mentioned above.

The Presiding Bishopric focuses on the service and outreach of the worldwide church, rather than the doctrine and preaching.

Each Auxiliary program of the church also has a worldwide presidency which works under the direction of the Apostles. They are the Relief Society (women), Young Women, Young Men, Primary (children), and Sunday School.

Local leadership follows a similar pattern. The leader of a congregation is the Bishop. He has two counselors to assist him. Together these are called the Bishopric. Each congregation also has Relief Society, Young Women, Young Men, Primary, and Sunday School presidents.
A collection of congregations is called a Stake. It is headed by a Stake Presidency and presidents for each of the auxiliary programs.

Missions and Temples are also lead by Presidents who are joined by their wives. However, these do not fall under the standard leadership hierarchy but report directly to Seventies or Apostles.

What is the head teacher of the Mormons called?

Depends on what you mean by "head teacher." If you are asking about founders, the answer would be Joseph Smith, Jr. If you are referring to people in charge of everything, (like the Pope is to Catholicism), the answer is the Prophet or President of the Church. If this question is more theologically based, most mormons would probably answer, "Jesus Christ."

What do Mormons call non Mormons?

Most Mormons are not mean in calling non Mormons names. When referring to non Mormons, they are usually called non members. It's not to offend people, it's just when you're classifying all non Mormons, you have to say something. Former Church President Gordon B. Hinckley suggested called non Mormons "Friends of other faiths" as a kinder-sounding term, but it didn't really catch on. ^^Good answer. When referring to someone who is not a member of the church we call them non members. If they are a member but hardly ever go we just call them inactive. Its not in anyway to offend anyone.
