The Giver is an American children's novel by Lois Lowry written in 1993. The rules of the community are no lying, must use precise language, must share feelings at dinner, must share dreams at breakfast, must take pills for stirrings, must finish volunteer hours, each couple can only have two kids (boy and girl), no fighting, adults and children cannot look at each other nude, respect elders, be respectful, cannot ride bike before age nine, girls must wear ribbon in hair until age nine, must receive life assignment at Ceremony of Twelve and you must apologize for bad things.

4 rules are one male and one female per family, there cant be a third transgession, nobody can look at the list of name calling, and at the age of 8 you must do volunter hours.
