What happens to spent fuel rods after they are removed?

they are stored temporarily (for few month) underwater for cooling and partially reducing its radioactivity, then transported to either long term storage (under water or dry storage in casks), or disposal sites, or to reprocessing facilities (to sparate the fuel into uranium, plutonium, and vitrified fission products.

Identify two possible options you studied for dealing with spent nuclear fuel rods?

burying them in deep caverns, removing lighter nuclei and reusing them

How is nuclear waste stored after the ten year cooling off period under water Is the waste stored in some kind of container and if so what is the container made of?

Dry cask storage is a method of storing high-level radioactive waste, such as spent nuclear fuel that has already been cooled in the spent fuel pool for at least one year. The fuel is surrounded by inert gas inside a large container. These casks are typically steel cylinders that are either welded or bolted closed. Ideally, the steel cylinder provides leak-tight containment of the spent fuel. Each cylinder is surrounded by additional steel, concrete, or other material to provide radiation shielding to workers and members of the public. Some of the cask designs can be used for both storage and transportation. There are various dry storage cask system designs. With some designs, the steel cylinders containing the fuel are placed vertically in a concrete vault; other designs orient the cylinders horizontally. The concrete vaults provide the radiation shielding. Other cask designs orient the steel cylinder vertically on a concrete pad at a dry cask storage site and use both metal and concrete outer cylinders for radiation shielding. This method of storage has had to be adopted in some places because the spent fuel pools have become full. Ideally the fuel which has cooled sufficiently should be transported to a safe long term store but there is no facility in the US for doing this.

Why is it necessary to use sealed casks whe making wine?

Sealed casks prevent wine from being exposed to oxygen, which can lead to oxidation and spoilage. This helps preserve the flavor, aroma, and quality of the wine during the aging process. Additionally, sealed casks create a controlled environment for fermentation to occur without contamination.

Does Nuclear fission create any waste materials.?

nuclear fission results in the presence of used nuclear fuel that should be:either reprocessed (to gain back the remaining uranium and produced plutonium and to get the fission products as vitrified waste), orstored as high active waste; either under water or in dry storage casks.

How long does liquor age?

It depends on the type being made. However the minimum for most I've seen is aged for two years in casks.

Why are wines stored in oak casks?

Wines taste better when aged in an oak cask. These casks are later used to make very mellow malt whiskies. The taste of the wine flavours the whisky.
