Well Slavery is a big issue. It's treating other human beings like there nothing. There just like us,just look at it this way. Would you want somebody to beat you and abuse you make you do there job?I know i wouldn't.The Issue is that don't treat somebody the way you wouldn't want to be treated. The way you treat them is the way there going to treat you. Believe me what goes arround comes arround..
Slaves tried to adjust in a society geared against them. Strangely enough, the greatest obstacle was the slaves didnt know what to do. It's like a prisoner in jail for 50 years walking out into the world, what do i do? The slaves faced 2 obstacles. Lack of respect of society, and the lack of respect for themselves.(Remember this does not apply to all slaves that time, just the majority)
Even as early as the constitutional convention, immediately following the Revolutionary War, there was a lot of disagreement about slavery, although a compromise was reached. Continued disagreement about slavery was the main source of friction between the northern and southern states, which eventually resulted in a very destructive civil war in the 19th century. And even after the abolition of slavery, there has been a lot of trouble in the US as a result of lingering racism, and resentment mutually felt between African Americans and European Americans. This remains a huge social problem in the US - although the election of President Obama is a sign of progress.
