Okay, these are all females. Most are deceased, hence historical. Dame Nellie Melba ( died l93l) Australian. Emma Albani- Italian girl of Canadian residency who performed at funeral rites for Queen Victoria. Lillian Nordica- classic Wagnerian soprano- died l9l4. Geraldine Farrar- one of the first American women to sing at the Met ( not the first- that would be Mme Nordica) getting a bit more modern- Lily Pons l904-76 ( died on or near Valentine"s day) French Coloratura Soprano, Rosa Ponselle, American Mezzo-Soprano ( both of these Ladies have been honored on US stamps)- Adelina Patti- died l9l9 classic Italian Soprano- and belived to be the inspiration for the popular song- Sweet Adeline. Beverly Sills- modern Coloratura Soprano, deceased. Gladys Swartout, American soprano- mid-twentieth century, it is fitting to close with Grace Moore who was probably the only real Opera star to cross-over into popular music- and movies as well! She is best known for the song (Love Me Forever) which first came out in l933 and was written by Blanchard and Malone. In a very loose sense she was the Ronnie Spector of her day!- which ended tragically young.
