The President of the United States is the Commander-in-Chief of the United States military with dozens of advisors in the area of war. As the Commander-in-Chief, he has the power to declare war, make peace, and issue commands to the troops that must be followed. But to do these things, he often has to go through the Senate and get their approval before these orders can be carried out. However, if the Senate proposes something he doesn't like, he can veto it or send it back after editing it to his or her liking.
