Who influenced punk?
Punk was born because of a few reasons. 1- Punk was born out of the rebelion against the music scene of the time. Bands like the Ramones and the Sex Pistols hated the fact that bands like Simon and Garfunkel were considered rock n roll. 2- Punk bands also refused to dissconect themselves from their fans and sign with major record labels. That gave punk the raw sound that we have all come to know and love. 3- Alot of early punk was influenced by 60's garage bands. Also alot of punk bands grew up listening to bands like the stooges and the mc5 who were early forms of punk rock. 4- When the Ramones released their first album they influenced alot of punk bands. alternative is basically anything new that rips off any one, or multiple syles of any other music. Actually, "alternative" is what happened when the hardcore Punk sound flopped commercially and the garage bands flailed haplessly around, looking for something, anything to take its place. Now Green Day is a successful commercial Punk band that makes millions, and a group like the White Stripes who have a "semi-Punk" sound are considered "Alternative." Alternative Rock is just a name for ex-punksters trying to come up with something new-sounding, yet somewhat as dynamic as Punk Rock. Usually they fail.

Alternative is Rock Music made outside the mainstream. They Might Be Giants, Joy Division, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, and Sonic Youth are examples of alternative. It has lots of subgenres, like indie, post-punk, goth, and Britpop. Metal is a genre focusing on crushing riffs, musical complexity, raucous or shouted vocals, and dark, rebellious lyrics. It has its roots in blues-rock and louder prog. Everything from loud, droning instrumentals to hyper-fast growled drum-guitar showdowns is considered metal. Napalm Death, Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden are metal bands. Punk is a stripped-down, angry guitar-based genre with themes of politics, drugs, and the punk scene itself. It uses a lot of distortion and is very lo-fi and fast, but usually quite melodic. Types of punk include Celtic punk, hardcore, funk-punk, and psychobilly, which is punk rockabilly. Bands include Black Flag, the Ramones, early Devo, The Fall, the Sex Pistols, Bad Brains, and the Clash. I'm not sure what alternative-punk-metal would sound like. I'm guessing sort of like Primus, Jane's Addiction, and Rage Against the Machine. Early Nirvana and Soundgarden is alt-punk-metal, as is Alice in Chains, but these bands are known as grunge bands.

What genre would you describe Panic At the Disco to be?
Pop EmoI agree that panic at the disco is emo/pop but I hate when people consider it alternative punk or pop/punkIt is emo/pop (especially because of his 2º album), but i think the actual genre is alternative emo-punk, because is one of those bands who use dark lyrics and a lot of instruments ( bass, drums ,violin , synthesizer, and the most notable the piano).
