All atomic nuclei contain one or more neutrons except hydrogen-1, which has just a single proton as its nucleus. This isotope of hydrogen is the only atom that has no neutrons in its nucleus. The only one.

In 1906, J.J. Thomson said that all atoms have positive and negative charges. In 1911, Ernest Rutherford proposed that all atoms had a nucleus in their centre and in 1922, Neils Bohr discovered the positive neucleus is surrounded by electrons in certain energy levels that orbit the neucleus. He also prefected the Bohr-Rutherford Model.

What are in atoms?

Atoms are made of a nucleus, which contains subatomic particles called neutrons and protons, and electrons, which orbit the nucleus in certain areas.

What are the composition of atoms?

Speaking very generally, most atoms consist of a dense nucleus which contains protons and neutrons, and an electron cloud away from the nucleus which contains electrons.

The central core of an atom that contains most of the atoms mass?

This is the nucleus, containing protons and neutrons.

The nucleus of an atom contains what two particles?

nucleus....contains protons & neutrons

Which of these is the part of an atom that contains the protons and neutrons?

The Nucleus. Which is inside the electron clouds.

An atom's nucleus contains?

Atoms are made from three basic particles: protons, neutrons and electronsNeutron and protons make up nucleus. Electrons revolve around the nucleus

What is the proton equal to in the atom?

The proton in an atoms nucleus has a positive charge. The nucleus of an atom contains protons an neutrons whilst the electrons "orbit" the nucleus and have a negative charge.

What is a nucleus and how many kinds are there?

The term nucleus has two main meanings in science. The center of a cell contains a cell nucleus, which can be defined as an organelle which contains the genetic material of the organism. And the center of an atom contains the atomic nucleus, which can be defined as the part of the atom which contains protons and/or neutrons (all atoms except for the lightest hydrogen isotope contain both protons and neutrons).

What is the composition of the atom and how the subatomic particles are arranged?

Protons and neutrons are situated in the atomic nucleus; electrons surround the nucleus, arranged in shells.

An atom contains what?

An atom contains protons and neutrons in the nucleus (though Hydrogen does not have neutrons) and electrons orbiting the nucleus.
