Hate to say it, but not too many places would hire a twelve-year-old. Child labor laws and everything. You may just have to wait until you're sixteen or get small jobs like babysitting or mowing lawns for family, neighbors, or friends.
It would probably be north.
I would say it was Pennsylvania., Maryland and Virginia.
Virginia And Maryland
Between Maryland and Virginia, northeastern US.
PA, VA, and WVA are separate states in the USA. If you stand on the middle of the southern state line of Pennsylvania, and go directly south, you would be in the state of Maryland. Maryland has a strange shape to its western borders. Virginia is south and southwest of Maryland. But if you stand on the state line of PA anywhere from the western corner to about the middle, you would cross into West Virginia. WVA goes partway up and under the western side of PA.
DC is not a part of any state. It is governed by congress. The land making up DC was originally taken from Maryland and Virginia. However, the portion taken from Virginia was returned to Virginia, so if DC was ever ceased to be governed by congress, it would become a part of Maryland. That has been suggested; however, Maryland does not want D. C.
Washington D. C. would have been surrounded by the Confederacy if Maryland had seceded. Washington D.C. is on the northern side of the Potomac River within the state of Maryland and just across the river from Virginia.

Washington D.C. is not technically located in any state, as per the intention of its establishment. This is so it would be fair to all states and that no one state would host the capital of the country. It is under the jurisdiction of the Congress and not any state.
There were five Colonies that made up the Southern Colonies. They were Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland.
