THIS IS ACTUALLY CALLED A STYPTIC PENCIL! Yes...you can find it at your local drug store, usually in the men's shaving area. It's a chalk-like type "pencil" that you wet and dab onto an area where you nicked yourself while shaving. It contains a mild anti-coagulant (Aluminum Sulfate 46%) that will stop bleeding almost immediately.
If your ferret rips out a nail, stop the bleeding with a styptic pencil (or cornstarch) and contact your veterinarian. To avoid such problems, keep your ferrets nail trimmed as their nails do tend split and catch on cloths.

Hold the Quaker in a towel to keep it from biting (this is best done with another person holding the parrot). Carefully snip off small sections of nail at a time, check for bleeding, and use the styptic powder to stop bleeding if necessary.

Apply Quik Stop from pet store or styptic pencil from drug store in men's grooming section. Apply moderate presure with a clean gauze bandage for 10 min. If that doesn't stop it call vet IMMEDIATELY. VERY RARELY a dog can get acute anemia or even bleed to death. If first aid fails, move quickly.
