Siddhartha Gautama founded Buddhism about 525 B.C. in India. Buddhism is a derivative of Hinduism. Buddha was a Hindu born in northern India. He formed a school of religious thought that was primarily designed to reform Brahmanism (Hinduism) and especially to overthrow the Caste System. Siddhartha Gautama was born the son of a prince. He grew up in wealth and luxury and married happily. Meditating about the evils of the world led him to abandon his wife, his children, and his wealth and to wander about India as a beggar in search of truth. After many years of wandering and meditation, he found what he thought was truth. The people who followed him called him Buddha, which means the Enlightened One. The people who followed him called him Buddha, which means the Enlightened One. They later wrote down his sayings and established a canon. Many Buddhists do not believe in a God or Supreme Being of any kind. Others speak of the Buddha as a universal enlightened consciousness or as a god. Buddhism is mostly atheistic. Buddhists in the West generally view Jesus as an enlightened man. Jesus Christ is not part of this belief system neither is The Holy Spirit.

What can worship mean if Buddhists dont believe Buddha is a god?

they worship the spirit or object.Answer:Worship is, in Western religions, a method of contacting a god to ask for protection, forgiveness or ask for help. Worship is not a part of Buddhism as they have no god(s). They revere the Buddha as a man who identified the common cause of all suffering and the path o escape it. They respect others who have made insightful comment. They remember and take lessons from the lives of good people and use the lives of people who have made unskilled chices to help them identify their own shortcomings. But they don't worship.AnswerThere are two forms of Buddhism, philosophical and religious. So one can be a Buddhist in the philosophical school and not hold any religious beliefs, or even be a Christian. Most Eastern Buddhists worship gods and believe in reincarnation. Tibetan and Chinese Buddhists believe in numerous gods, many of which are depicted by statues in their temples. Tibetan Buddhism also incorporates animism.

Where do Buddhists go to worship?

Buddhists don't actually "worship" or "pray" insofar as they don't ask a higher power for intercession in their lives. They do meditate, and conduct ceremonies. Many Buddhists have altars at home where they make offerings, or they might have a puja room, which is a dedicated place to practice. Monasteries and nunneries sometimes conduct ceremonies, and offer a place for people to make offerings of butter lamps, perform prostrations or perform other rituals. Tibetan Buddhists will also make offerings on the tops of high passes, and visit stupas or other shrines where relics of the Buddha or other important lamas are kept. In addition, there are a variety of holy sites to which they will make pilgrimmages.

If Buddhists dont have a God who or what do they worship?

They do not "worship" in the Isla-Judeo-Christian sense.A few basic beliefs:Buddha was simply a man, not a deity.Buddha achieved enlightenment, or a spiritual understanding of the nature of reality.Four basic Tenets of Buddhism (Four Noble Truths)1) Buddhists belief the nature of life is suffering.2) Suffering is a result of desire, ignorance and hatred.3) It is possible to end suffering4) By following the teachings of Buddha (the Eightfold Path) this will be achievedBuddhism never denies that there are gods. Similarly Buddhism gas no stance on the creation of of universe. Siddhartha Gautama (founder of buddhism) doesnt find worshipping god as man's main problem as they should focus on washing their sins by paying their karma by doing good deeds. he does not want people to constantly expecting god to fix everything as god will not do it. karma, sins, and reincarnation are part of universe and something all man have to go through. Neither does he expect his followers to worship buddha himself as it is unecessary in obtaining a happy and meaningful life.
