You can't prevent a cold, except by isolating yourself from anyone and anything that carries the rhinovirus (cold virus).

What you can do is, at the first sign of a cold, take a vitamin or other food (citrus, tomatoes, etc.), or supplement, or product that is high in vitamin C. Also use throat lozenges containing zinc.

Although the efficacy of zinc as a dietary supplement for treating or preventing a cold is not yet proven to the satisfaction of the majority of scientists studying this, the majority do agree that using lozenges with zinc is effective. It is believed that the zinc in contact directly with your mucous tissues in the mouth and throat can block the attachment of the virus particles (virions) to your tissues so they can not gain entry to infect the cell.

Both vitamin C and zinc throat lozenges have been shown to reduce the severity, and possibly the duration, of colds and flu.

Eat lots of stuff that contains Vitamin C, wear the right type of clothing when you go out in a cold day, and when you are outside for a while in the cold take a warm bath when you get home, but not too hot.

This might be hard to believe, but you don't get colds from the cold! You get colds from bundling up, getting warm, staying inside, and sharing germs with others. The best way to also prevent it is to keep your hands clean, wash them with warm water, soap. You also should try eating healthy.

_____

-Wash your hands constantly.

-Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.

-Take an immunity supplement (I like oil of oregano; many people opt out for Vitamin C).

-Avoid sharing utensils, drinking bottles, etc.

-Avoid associating with infected parties.

The CDC also says the simple act of hand washing is the single most important means of preventing the spread of viral and bacterial infections.
