genetics....usually there are traces of it in your familys history. if there isn't traces, either it had never been diagnosed or the chromozones of your parents combined together could create it.
I am 99 % sure it can come from experiences that scar people, but i know for sure that ocd can run in the family.
I would say that the person that wrote the answer above is somewhat correct. Some of the time OCD begins from expiriences, but not all. A close family member and I bot has OCD and it was from no expiriences. OCD is hereditary and it can also be caused of the way one thinks. At times, a person's personality can cause OCD and brain changes and life changes will also cause it.
Often with thoughts or obsessions that seem impossible to control, particularly when there are compulsions or impulses telling you to do something over and over even though you know that they have already been done.
There is often wrenching anxiety that seems like it cannot be relieved unless the task is peformed. Performing the task begins to give great relief from anxiety until the task performance almost becomes like an addiction. Thus people will check or lock the doors and/or windows that have already been locked over and over, clean things that are already clean over and over, etc. Sometimes these actions are not related to anything in particular, other times they are linked to a trauma such as being the victim of a home invasion or violent crime (lock checking) or illness (cleaning which relieves a fear of infection or infestation).
There is no known definite cause of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Theories include serotonin deficiency, brain changes from learned behaviors, and possible hereditary factors, as well as potential (but, as yet, unknown) environmental contributions.
In sum, there is not enough known about OCD, to date, other than symptom criteria and treatment options.
Some experts believe that OCD is related to a chemical imbalance within the brain that causes a communication problem between the front part of the brain (frontal lobe) and deeper parts of the brain responsible for the repetitive behavior
There may be a need to control ones environment.
OCD is not a kind of disease and does not have a cause. Some theories were demons, insanity, and bad gas.
because of your family
OCD is diagnosed when symptoms start to become noticeable, which can be at any age. Most of the time, OCD symptoms become noticeable when a preteen/teen hits puberty. OCD can be diagnosed when someone is as young as 13 or as old as 60. It is different for everyone.
Its hard to say exactly when one's OCD condition acutally begins. The reason being is that OCD can mimic several other condtions. One doesn't always recognize the onset condition as being OCD right away. Many times a person can exhibit habit forming traits that are usually confused with OCD behavior. While OCD behavior is almost always indicative of habitual behaviors, OCD is characterized by more than just habitual behaviors. I would definetely say that OCD is usually symptomatic and symptoms would usually start showing right away. However with that in mind a person could definetely have OCD before it is actually diagnosed, b/c of the fact that it mimics several other more common traits of an individual.
