Girls wore a blouse, preferably with a shirt under, skirt, long socks, and old-fashioned shoes (old brown slippers). Boys wore shirts and pants or overalls. Many dressed up for church on Sundays.
Their uniform was like a khaki - brown colour (for camouflage which had small round brass buttons down the front. The jackets had very high collars (like a priest's They had round water bottles in leather pouches round their shoulders and of course a gun. they had baggy khaki trousers and bandage type things rapped around their calves. They would have a round, rimmed helmet and big, tight bulky, leather boots ( sometimes they wouldn't take of their boots for like a week and their feet would rot.)
They would wear gas masks, and some kind of clothing that may have been battered or destroyed in some kind of way.

In WW1 the boys wore rags and cloths and when they never got washed they were always covered in muck and nits and all the dirtiness.
