My 12 year old German Shorthair has wonderful teeth. BUT she does not like the usual dog chew toys. Will use a tennis ball (not to chew but fetch). She assumes those balls are the granddaughters, so she is very careful and polite not to chew them.

I cut adult t-shirts into 2 inch strips, bottom to the armpits. Using a variety of colors, I cut the loop, braid 3 of them together tightly. Do an assortment, then go to the sewing machine, and stitch in multiple times back and forth every couple inches. Stitching the ends mega times as well.
I then use 3 of these sewn strips and braid them, knot them, braid them, etc. Sewing the ends and then a huge knot. I do categorize by size of dog SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE.
I have never had a dog not love them. AND it is soft fabric, works on their teeth as they chew. My son's dog used to bring her's to be retied when we visited. My own dog steals them from the sewing machine when I am stitching them. My friend has small dogs and they love them. Shake them, growl, play, share and start all over. The fabric cleans their teeth. (Like an infant/baby when told to wipe their mouth/teeth/tooth buds.)
People give me their old shirts when they retire them. I don't care if faded, etc. But can't have paint/stain, chemical use on them.
The nice part of this is you can wash in the laundry with your own detergents, etc as you would their own blankets, etc. It is their scent or the family scent. I replace my thread and the rest is profit for the Humane Society.
