SPOILER ALERT!

Mrs. Dantner's husband Jack was killed during the attempt to take the infant Dominic and place him with the Friendship. Assuming what Violet's mother was told was accurate, Dominic's mother Piera grabbed a knife and backed into the nursery to protect him from the group of men who were there to take him. Jack Dantner rushed her, and she stabbed him in the chest before being attacked (and presumably killed) by the others. Dominic was the most important person at the moment, so the others left Jack Dantner to bleed to death while they got Dominic back to Mrs. Dantner.

Despite being so cold-hearted in other ways, Mrs. Dantner apparently did love her husband---the wedding portrait of them showed them as "very young", so obviously they were married for some years. The photo album that had "HE WAS WORTH IT" also contained an obituary for Jack Dantner. From these clues, we can assume that Mrs. Dantner was comforting herself for Jack's loss with the knowledge that Dominic was now in the possession of the Friendship. She may have lost her husband, but gaining Dominic kept that death from being in vain.
