Firstly, Ehud Barak was a Prime Minister, not a President.
He offered the Palestinians control over the entire Old City of Jerusalem (with a Jewish committee to oversee the Western Wall), something which has never been offered before or since to the Palestinians. This offer, although rejected by the Palestinians, created tremendous furor in Israel, leading to Ehud Barak losing the next election to Ariel Sharon in a landslide.
This was not President Obama's peace treaty. It was his suggestion for a negotiating position for peace talks between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
Israeli is the common term. However, I know Israeli Arabs who would prefer to be called Palestinians, and before 1948, Jews from the region now known as Israel were known as Palestinian Jews.
The Palestinian Arabs and Jewish Militias were already embroiled in a civil war as early as 1946 (but primarily in 1947) before the conflict widened to be an international Arab-Israeli War. Most Palestinians fled either because of fear of Jewish/Israeli retaliation, incitement by community leaders, or generally a desire to be away from the conflict. After the war, Palestinians see the events of the 1947-1949 Jewish-Arab Engagement as the Nakba (Great Catastrophe).
New Orleans.
The first president of the United States. He was offered a position of king, but refused and served an eight year term as president. Before his presidency he was a general during the US revolution.
Since the Palestinians first started being called "Palestinians" in 1948. Before that, there were skirmishes with the local Arab people as far back as the 1920's.Since the concept of "Palestinians" was invented, around the late 1940s.
If this question is asking about political relations between Israel and Palestine, then the answer is rather simple: Palestine did not exist. Palestine only became a country in the late 1980s or early 1990s depending on the particular interpretation of history chosen. At this point, the Palestine Liberation Organization, the forerunner to the current Palestinian Authority (the recognized government of Palestine), was a stateless organization that believed in no negotiation or peace with the State of Israel. If this question is asking about personal relationships between Israelis and Palestinians, the question becomes more complicated. Between 1949 and 1967, Israeli Jews had little if any contact with Palestinians. The Israeli Arab communities tried to maintain links across the border with Jordan, but with little luck. Between 1967 and 1987, many Palestinians got jobs in Israel and correspondingly, there was relatively high degree of contact. Palestinians formed large portions of the workforce in many unskilled professions during this period. While the Occupation certainly bothered and infuriated the Palestinians, it was nowhere near as strong and omnipresent as it has been since the Intifadas.
Most Arabs are Muslim. Palestinians are not arabs. Palestinians are people who lived in Israel before it became a state in 1948 and was called Palestine. palestininans could be of any religion, therefore. A lot of the people living in Palestine were Arab Muslims.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is very complex, but i will summarize it for you. There was no such thing called Israel before 1948, it was Palestine, from the river to the sea, the whole land. in the 19th century Jews were prosecuted in Europe, so they established the Zionist movement which its main goal is to establish a Jewish state. The Zionist had their eyes on Palestine.before world war 1 Jews population in Palestine consisted of 3%.. 97% were majority Muslims and some Christians. The Jews stared to immigrate to Palestine after world war 1 to take over the land. They slaughtered and killed many Palestinians who were the indigenous people of the land. united nations decided to seperate the land, 56% for jews and 44% for Palestinian, which is unfair for Palestinians because its their homeland. So they established the State of Israel and they started to steal more and more land. Now its about 95% of the land for Israel, and 5% for the Palestinians, while before world war 1 it was 100% for Palestinians who the whole land belongs to them. I hope my information was useful and that i summarized the conflict in a simple way .
Israel doesnt have any 'natural' resources. Israel was 'Made up'. it didnt exist as an original country. it was all palestine before they came along and pushed all the palestinians to the Gaza strip. Israel still are not happy so there still trying to push them all out. Talk about being ungrateful and greedy!
An Israeli Presidents' term is 7 years long, and they may only serve one term. Before 1993, a term was 5 years long, and presidents were limited to two terms.
The Vice President is chosen before the President.
