Jefferson's instruction to Lewis were:
"Beginning at the mouth of the Missouri, you will take observations of latitude and longitude at all remarkable points on the river, & especially at the mouths of rivers, at rapids, at islands & other places & objects distinguished by such natural marks & characters of a durable kind, as that they may with certainty be recognized hereafter....The variations of the compass too, in different places should be noticed."
(considering the Native Americans) "...You will therefore endeavor to make yourself acquainted, as far as diligent pursuit of your journey shall admit with the names of the nations & their numbers, the extent & limits of their possessions; their relations with other tribes or nations; their language, traditions, monuments, their ordinary occupations in agriculture, fishing, hunting, war, arts & the implements for these, their food, clothing, & domestic accommodations, the diseases prevalent among them, & the remedies they use, moral and physical circumstance which distinguish them from the tribes they know, particularities in their laws, customs & dispositions, and articles of commerce they may need or furnish & to what extent."
"Other objects worthy of notice will be the soil & face of the country, it's growth & vegetable productions, especially those not of the US; the animals of the country generally & especially those not known in the US; the remains & accounts of any which may be deemed rare or extinct; the mineral productions of every kind, but more particularly metals, limestone, pit coal & saltpetre, salines & mineral waters, noting the temperature of the last & such circumstances as may indicate their character; volcanic appearances; climate as characterized by the thermometer, by the proportion of rainy, cloudy & clear days, by lightening, hail, snow, ice, by the access & recess of frost, by the winds, prevailing at different seasons & the dates at which particular plants put forth or lose their flower or leaf, times of appearance of particular birds, reptiles or insects."
It gave us a glimpse into the territory we just bought. they were looking for the northwest Passage (a river ow water way that went from the Atlantic to the Pacific. so if you want to be technical it was a failed expedition but it did tell us exactly what was there. Historically the expedition changed nothing no working man would have cared back then. we just teach it because it was the last great journey into the unknown in history.
his want to explore and discover
There are several reasons for the changes. The US purchased land from France known as the Louisiana Purchase and then they had an expedition by two people known as Merriweather Lewis and William Clark explored land along the Mississippi, Missouri, and Snake River and claimed any of the land that wasn't already the US's the US's (this included Oregon). Texas asked to join the US but Mexico didn't want to give it up so America a few wars with Mexico and got more land each time. Mexico also gave California to the US and the US bought some land from Mexico as well and Alaska and Hawaii voted to join the United States as well.
The expedition's goal as stated by President Jefferson was "to explore the Missouri River, & such principal stream of it as, by its course & communication with the water of the Pacific ocean may offer the most direct & practicable water communication across this continent, for the purposes of commerce." In addition, the expedition was to learn more about the Northwest's natural resources, inhabitants, and possibilities for settlement,Jefferson's instruction to Lewis were:"Beginning at the mouth of the Missouri, you will take observations of latitude and longitude at all remarkable points on the river, & especially at the mouths of rivers, at rapids, at islands & other places & objects distinguished by such natural marks & characters of a durable kind, as that they may with certainty be recognized hereafter....The variations of the compass too, in different places should be noticed."(considering the Native Americans) "...You will therefore endeavor to make yourself acquainted, as far as diligent pursuit of your journey shall admit with the names of the nations & their numbers, the extent & limits of their possessions; their relations with other tribes or nations; their language, traditions, monuments, their ordinary occupations in agriculture, fishing, hunting, war, arts & the implements for these, their food, clothing, & domestic accommodations, the diseases prevalent among them, & the remedies they use, moral and physical circumstance which distinguish them from the tribes they know, particularities in their laws, customs & dispositions, and articles of commerce they may need or furnish & to what extent.""Other objects worthy of notice will be the soil & face of the country, it's growth & vegetable productions, especially those not of the US; the animals of the country generally & especially those not known in the US; the remains & accounts of any which may be deemed rare or extinct; the mineral productions of every kind, but more particularly metals, limestone, pit coal & saltpetre, salines & mineral waters, noting the temperature of the last & such circumstances as may indicate their character; volcanic appearances; climate as characterized by the thermometer, by the proportion of rainy, cloudy & clear days, by lightening, hail, snow, ice, by the access & recess of frost, by the winds, prevailing at different seasons & the dates at which particular plants put forth or lose their flower or leaf, times of appearance of particular birds, reptiles or insects."
The United States became divided in the 1790s as a result of public conflict. The main conflict was on the understanding of the American revolution and this happened during John Adams' term as the president.
to explore the west :)
Lewis and Clark's expedition fulfilled Thomas Jefferson's Continental vision because Jefferson want the U.S. to expand from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and even though there was no "Northwest' passage" Lewis and Clark still discovered a way to get to the Pacific ocean through rivers branching out.
Thomas Jefferson sent them to explore the land west of the Missippi. They eventually ended up in Oregon. If you want to know more, iit is also a book.
President Thomas Jefferson tasked Meriwether Lewis and William Clark with exploring and mapping the newly acquired Louisiana Territory, specifically to find a practical route across the western part of the continent to the Pacific Ocean. He also instructed them to study the geography, flora, fauna, and indigenous peoples they encountered during their expedition.
because he did not want to scare any animals
he didn't want their wives to be so sad
0 actually. They didn't want to harm nature or animals or something idk
he Lewis and Clark expedition also met several French trappers, and more famously Sacajawea and her husband Toussaint Charbonneau when they wintered at the present site of Bismarck, North Dakota in 1804. However, they warned specifically by President Jefferson to stay away from British trappers as relations between the two countries were strained and he didn't want them to be led astray.
A Native American. Okay, I know you want the answer of the Lewis and Clark expedition. They recorded their discovery of the land. They told the president about it.
Jefferson wanted to explore the American West, particularly the area west of the Mississippi River, in order to find a water route to the Pacific Ocean. He believed that such a route would provide an opportunity for trade and expansion. This desire for exploration and expansion ultimately led to the Lewis and Clark expedition.
what Lewis and clark wanted to accomplish was to map the entire Louisiana purchase
The Northwest Passage
