Take the Uptown C train (on the A-C-E, the blue line) from Penn Station (34th Street) to either 59th Street-Columbus Circle, 72nd Street, 81st Street, 86th Street, 96th Street or 103rd Street.

Central Park runs south to north from 59th Street to 110th Street, and west to east from Central Park West to Fifth Avenue. The C train runs up and down Central Park West, so any of these stops -- 59th, 72nd, 81st, 86th, 96th, 103rd -- will drop you off right across the street from the park.

The A train also runs up and down Central Park West, but it is an express train. It stops at 59th Street and then 125th Street. Remember, the north end of the park is at 110th Street. So if you take the A train, you must get off at the south end of the park (or, transfer at 59th Street for the Uptown C or B trains).

The B and D trains also run up and down Central Park West, but they do not stop at Penn Station. But if you take the A train and then want to transfer at 59th, you can transfer to the B. Don't transfer to the D, because, like the A, the D is an express train and 125th Street is the next stop after 59th.

North. Walk straight north up 8th or 7th Avenue from Penn Station. The southwest corner of the park is at the corner of 8th Avenue and 59th Street (Central Park West and Central Park South).

The portion of 59th Street that borders the park is called Central Park South. The portion of 8th Avenue that borders the park is called Central Park West, and the portion of 110th Street that borders the park is called Central Park North. However, the portion of 5th Avenue that borders the park is NOT called Central Park East.

Walking directions from Penn Station to Grand Central?

Grand Central Station is on Lexington Avenue and East 42nd Street. Penn Station is between 7th and 8th Avenues, from West 33rd to West 34th Street. When you exit Grand Central Station, walk west on 42nd Street. Forty-second Street is a two-laned street that runs west to east and east to west. The north side of 42nd Street is the side that goes east to west, and Grand Central Station is on the north side of 42nd Street. So, to go west, you follow the direction that traffic is going on the side of the street you are on. Walk west until you get to 7th Avenue and West 42nd Street. At 7th Avenue, turn left, and walk south to 33rd Street. The east entrance to Penn Station is on 7th Avenue and West 33rd Street. The total walking distance is about a mile and a half. If you would rather take the subway, then, take the S shuttle train (color code grey) west across 42nd Street, from Grand Central (East 42nd) to Times Square (West 42nd). At the Times Square Station, transfer to either the Downtown 1, 2, or 3 trains (the red line) or the A, C, or E trains (the blue line). Take the Downtown 1-2-3 or A-C-E ONE STOP to Penn Station (which is 33rd Street on the 1-2-3, and 34th Street on the A-C-E).

Is Grand Central Station connected to Penn Station by a subway or shuttle?

They are both on the New York Subway system, but you'll have to transfer. The best way to get from Grand Central Station to Penn Station is to take the "S" train to Times Square and then take the "1", "2", or "3" trains heading Downtown. The 34th Street stop is by Penn Station. The subway map calls the A, C, E 34th Street stop the Penn Station stop, but the 1, 2, 3 34th Street stop is just as close; walking from the "S" train to the A, C, or E would take awhile since there is a lengthy walk from the S stop on 7th Avenue to the A, C, E stop on 8th Avenue. It's not worth that.
