Mufasa ends up saving his son's life twice. The child Simba deliberately disobeyed him in efforts to be brave like him, which lead his father to teach him that being brave is not the same as go looking for trouble. And to tell him that the great kings of the past look down on them from the stars and that they, as well as he himself, would always be there to guide Simba, if he should ever feel alone. Simba takes it literally and thinks his father will never go away and always come when he calls for him. After his fathes is murdered by his uncle who blames the death on the child Simba, Simba goes to exile for years and apparently would've never have the strength and faith to return home, but a family friend summoned his father's spirit, who then appeared to Simba through clouds, to give him guidence.
