It should be noted that Christ did not say how the universe was created or teach that this mattered as part of what it meant to follow him. He simply taught us how to love God and each other.
However, the Christian Church did make pronouncements on this and it is these that have lead to the problems in Christianity as the enlightenment, and the scientific method applied to evolution and cosmology have proved that the Church's teachings were incorrect.

∙ 15y agoChristians believe that the earth and all that is in it was created in the beginning by almighty God. Many christian believe further that this was done in 6 literal 24-hour days, since this is the plain teaching of the Hebrew scriptures.
Christians also believe the earth was 'created to be inhabited'. This all the various necessities for life on the planet were put there by almighty God when He formed it.
Christians also believe that they are in a position of authority over the earth certainly to subdue and exploit it but also in a way which cares responsibly for the earth since this is God's creation and we have to live here for a time.
