Fish are more active in Spring/Summer, feeding and growing well but falling into a state of 'hibernation' in Autumn/Winter when they stop feeding completely. So feed in spring and summer. Stop in winter and fall!
Most bags of koi food have directions on how much to feed depending on temperature. Don't overfeed or the pond water will get dirty faster.

Depending on the type of fish it could be smaller fish to vegetation growing.
