There isn't just one kind of leaf beetle; there are numerous types, including the cottonwood leaf beetle, the imported willow leaf beetle, the elm leaf beetle, cereal leaf beetle and asparagus leaf beetle. Leaf beetles attack shrubs, trees, flowers and plants. The leaf beetle is considered a nuisance pest because it mostly causes aesthetic plant damage when it feeds. However, if it feeds on a tree that is in poor health it can cause the tree to die.
If you mean a leafhopper, they cannot bite as they have sucking mouthparts - much like a mosquito but only able to feed on plants. If you mean a walking leaf... they cannot bite us either, their mouthparts are not strong enough. :P Leaf katydids could bite you, it would result in a small wound as their jaws are pretty strong, but they're not venomous and it should heal quickly.

Leaf beetles feed on leaves of different trees and plants, including elms, willows, viburnum, and vegetable plants. Because there are over 35,000 species of leaf beetles, most species prefer a specific type of plant. There are leaf beetles that eat leaves from potato, beans, asparagus, and many other plants.
