Answer: "The Qur'an" means: "the recitaion", or "the reading". Reciting the Qur'an is unlike anything else in the world. The Qur'an is a miracle. No one - even the best writers in the Arabic language - can write anything so wonderful. Not just the meanings of the words. Not just the information about the Prophets, the consistency of it's message, the scientific knowledge that people have only begun to discover in the last century, the prophecies which all have come true. No. It's very words - and the way the words are put together. The very sounds of the words and verses. it is Muhammad's biggest miracle - and one of the proofs of his prophethood. When Muhammad, at the age of fourty, came down from the mountain and declared that he is the Last Prophet of God, he brought with him the verses of the Qur'an - the first few verses of a book which was revealed part by part over a period of twenty-three years. When the people heard him recite these incredible verses, they thought it was some kind of magic. It was not poetry - far above any poetry. In fact, they could not explain it - at all. Then, when they listened to it's message - that there is only One God who has no partners in His creation - that all people will be raised to life for the Judgement - they soon believed. The Qur'an gave spiritual, moral, social, economic and military guidance to the new nation - the one foretold by Jesus ( read the Gospels and you will see that Jesus speaks of a "new nation" after Israel ). To recite the Qur'an is to read words which move your heart to belief - and piety - and all good. You are sure, when you read it, that this is God speaking to YOU. You can get a translation of the Qur'an in many bookstores and on the Web. Although a translation is just a rough interpretation of some of the meanings ( and is NOT the real Qur'an ) yet you can have an idea how this book is clearer and more complete than The Bible ever was. Muslims respect the Bible, but we know that parts of the Bible have been changed and we follow the Qur'an because it is the promised 'last message' to Mankind.
