we are soaped to think of the veterans.
"soaped"? Would that be with body wash or bar soap? Come on! Proofread and spell check!
For those who ask what you can do to honor veterans, DON'T wait till they die! There are far better ways to honor this country's veterans than waiting till they die, and laying flowers on their graves. What good does that do?? A far, far better way is to go out of your way to meet them, men and women alike, and find out if there is anything that you can do to help. Many vets return home, injured, disabled, and significantly changed by their experiences. And not just wartime, but peacetime too. I often tell people "peacetime" does not mean "peace-ful." And don't just wait till a national holiday, or Veterans Day to honor them. And don't be one of those shallow and self-gratifying cads who pay the lip service, and refuse to follow through. I can't count how many times I have heard people say, "oh, we should do more for our veterans. We will never be able to repay that debt." Well, that's true, you will never repay what you won't even attempt. If you offer your assistance, FOLLOW THROUGH! If the vet asks for your help after you have offered, don't decide that right then is the time you need to wash your hair, or go mall-hopping. Veterans put their lives on the line for you, and 350 million people she or he would never meet. And then, for many of us, it's a very hard uphill battle to try to reintegrate back into society, and live independently, as we were meant to do, when the effects of military service and apathetic government and civilians often get in the way.
Honor the veteran by helping, knowing them, learning from them, and working WITH them to ease their lives. They protected your very lives, and your freedoms, and those of the people you love and care for without knowing you. Now if that isn't heroism, what is?
