Keep copies of ALL paperwork you receive, and store it in a safe place. And expect it to suck. Everything else, you sort of learn as you go.

Just say no, and I know, for I experienced basic training. If you aren't TRULY DEDICATED TO GET THROUGH, DON'T GO THROUGH WITH IT!
Only a training post that army soldiers can train on, there is no dedicated army base in florida that army soldeirs can get stationed at. Bummer I know
I used to be in the army. I know for a fact that basic training last around 2-3 months. Once your son is settled into the routine of things they should allow them to contact you back home during this time. If you cannot get a hold of your son then you should either wait until he is settled into his training station for his MOS. If you really have to contact him then you can go through the proper channels of the military and they can get a message to him.
I don't know about the Army, but when I went through Marine Corps basic training, the furthest distance we were required to shoot from on a KD range was 500 meters in a prone position.
